Finch Fuel Oil Company Inc. is family owned and operated since 1976.

Our history dates back to 1882 with the start of an Ice business known as Finch’s Ice on Bowers street in Jersey City, New Jersey which was owned by Charles V. Finch Sr.

In 1934 Charles V Finch and Sons were formed by Clarence Finch Sr. which delivered coal and ice. He started his deliveries with a loaned truck from a friend Sam Smith so he can deliver to residential and bid work customers. The first bid he ever delivered to was Bayonne Board of Education. Later his children Clarence Finch Jr. and Harold Finch Sr. became involved to help in the company.

In 1976 Clarence Finch Jr. started his own company in Kearny New Jersey which was called “Finch Fuel Oil Company Inc” and is still to this day. He started the company with his wife Veronica Finch out of their home. He started making deliveries with a borrowed truck from Arty. It was a tandem Ford.

In 1977 Mr. Finch was finally able to purchase a piece of property from the Salvation Army that is located at 648 Schuyler Avenue in Kearny to have a home for his company. The property was not in great condition and took a lot of work. To this present day Finch Fuel Oil Co., Inc. remains at the same location.

In 1999 Clarence Finch Jr’s daughter Helen became involved to help run the company. After 20 years and to this day she remains with the company and runs it for her father. Also with the help of her brother, Matthew, taking care of the IT work.

Finch Fuel is proud in servicing all of North Jersey delivering to municipalities, commercial and residential customers. We pride ourselves by keeping our municipalities and commercial accounts moving and warm while keeping our residential customers cozy during the winter months. Our customers are our #1 priority. No tank to big or to small is Finch Fuel’s business motto. This is how we did business for over 40 years and we hope to continue for another 100 years!
